As one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers, Suncor works with a range of suppliers, both directly and indirectly, to support our operations across the country. Within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, this supports local companies, including Indigenous businesses, and helps foster economic development.

As part of our Social goal, Suncor has created an Indigenous Collaboration Strategy rooted in the recognition of the value of relationships and our intent to build greater mutual trust and respect. This strategy seeks to support the overall social, spiritual and physical well-being of community members through increased opportunities for leadership, entrepreneurship and partnership.

Donna Park, an advisor with Indigenous business development has seen firsthand the positive impact working with local Indigenous companies can have. As the first point of contact for companies, she works to understand their capabilities and proficiencies, connect to our business, and identify opportunities to support them to develop additional capacity. Through this approach, Suncor has contributed to the growth of many Indigenous companies within the RMWB.

In 2018, our Indigenous partners provided more than half a billion dollars’ worth of work in the region.  “Providing input that can help individuals and businesses grow is one of the best parts of my job,” says Donna.
